Dans & Braai Beatz

Good music. Good people and good times around the fire.

I’m from South Africa, and music has always been something that connects me to people, memories and everyday life. I started creating music because I had ideas, stories and feelings in my head that I wanted to turn into songs. I don’t really stick to one box. Some days it’s a lekker Afrikaans sokkie with a big beat, deep bass, trekklavier and a festival drop. Other days it’s a country song about losing someone, family, love, life or the things men don’t always talk about. A lot of my music comes from things I see and experience around me — the farm, a braai with friends, a Friday night, family, love, heartbreak, grief and just being South African. I like music that makes you want to dance, sing along, laugh, or sometimes stop and feel something. For me, music doesn’t have to be perfect. It has to mean something. Sometimes I want to make a song that gets everyone around the braai singing. Sometimes I want to put into words something that someone else is struggling to say. That’s what I’m trying to do with my music — tell real stories, have a bit of fun, keep the Afrikaans spirit alive, and make songs that people can feel. And if someone listens to one of my songs and thinks, “Damn, I’ve felt that too,” then I’ve done what I set out to do.
